In years past, Whitsunday was celebrated with much joy, but the name indicates that what people most noticed was the change in liturgical colors to white. Now the name of Pentecost (50 days of Easter) has been restored, and in the United States everyone wears red to church. But I still like this old-fashioned hymn-board from Trinity Cathedral, Little Rock, Arkansas. (And I know the old pronunciation of Whitsunday.)

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.” Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables; without a parable he told them nothing. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth to speak in parables;
I will proclaim what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.”

Justin was a pagan who fell into conversation one day with a man on the beach, who told him about Jesus. That was all it took; he became a great apologist, with three of his arguments still known and read today.
