Not to be confused with England’s famous Dr. Johnson, this Samuel Johnson was rector of Stratford, Connecticut before becoming first president of King’s College (now Columbia University), New York. Johnson and his colleagues were Anglican pioneers in New England, which was overwhelmingly Congregationalist.
