Anglicans have prayed in their native languages since 1549 because of this man, Thomas Cranmer, author and editor of the Book of Common Prayer. He combined various prayers from the elaborate monastic Liturgy of the Hours to give us Morning and Evening Prayer, composing phrases used throughout the English-speaking world. (artist unknown)
