The Festival of Booths, or Succoth, one of three annual feasts mandated in the Hebrew Scriptures, in which the Israelites were required to journey to the Temple for worship. Every year they built tent-like structures in remembrance of their ancestors’ 40-year journey in the desert until they arrived at the Promised Land. After captivity in Babylon, Ezra revived the practice. (artist unknown)
