Alban was a Roman soldier stationed 20 miles north of London, in a town now called St. Alban’s. He sheltered a Christian priest being persecuted, dressed in the man’s clothes and gave himself up when soldiers came to seize him. Sacrifice of self, after Christ’s own example, is the hallmark of the Christian religion.
