Nameplate of William Lloyd Garrison’s abolitionist newspaer The Liberator, which featured numerous essays by Maria Stewart. She was a freeborn African-American writer, speaker and teacher, later the Head Matron of Freedom’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., which became the renowned Howard University.
