Cyrus the Great of Persia, who reigned from 559 to 530 B.C., did not know God, but his policies of religious toleration made him “anointed of the Lord.” He ended the Jews’ exile in Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar II and sent them home to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple. (artist unknown)
