Aidan Hart: St. David. The Celtic faith centered in Glastonbury remained in Wales after the Angles, Saxons and Jutes conquered the rest of Britain, and from that faith today’s saint comes. David founded a dozen monasteries, pre-eminently at Menevia; he preferred to remain in study and prayer in his enclosure, but was elected bishop and eventually Primate of Wales. He was known as a strict administrator but lenient with wrongdoers.
