St. Chad, one of four brothers dedicated to the Church, was trained in the Celtic tradition by St. Aidan. He was an abbot, later appointed Bishop of York. When a new Archbishop of Canterbury showed up, insisting on Roman conformity in ordination, Chad offered to resign. Theodore reordained him as Bishop of Lichfield – and then had to keep him from making all his visitations on foot like Christ’s own apostles. (Holy Cross Monastery)
