After his conversion the Emperor Constantine appointed his mother Helena to build a grand church complex at the place where Christ was buried and rose again; it’s now the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Her excavations reportedly also revealed Mt. Calvary, where Jesus was crucified; it was visible from the courtyard, and every year people gathered there to venerate the Cross. The complex was dedicated on this day in 335. (source unknown)
