John Everett Millais, 1881: John Henry Newman. He was born into the evangelical Anglican tradition, fell in love with the Early Church Fathers, and wrote his famous Tract 90 in an attempt to reconcile Roman Catholicism with the 39 Articles. The result was a national uproar. But he was so convinced by his own argument he became a Roman Catholic himself.
