MosesTheBlack.1200

Moses the Black, also called Moses of Ethiopia, lived at a desert monastery in Lower Egypt after a life of violence and wantonness. Once when his monks met to punish an errant brother, he arrived carrying a basket of sand with holes in it on his back. He explained that the grains represented his sins, which were now behind him. The monks forgave their sinning brother and everyone returned back to their cells. (Iconographer unknown)
