Union Church, Berea, Kentucky, a college and town named for the ancient Macedonian city which welcomed Paul and Silas. Berea College was founded to admit black and white students regardless of ability to pay; every student has a job on campus. The Union Church, right across the street, remains racially integrated and non-denominational to this day. (Josh Thomas/Daily Office Network)
I have had the distinct privilege of preaching in this church twice. It was critical part of my college education and spiritual formation while at Berea College. In 1979, I made the decision to turn from my Baptist/Methodist roots and become an Episcopalian. Thank you Union Church for being a light shining in the hills of Appalachia and a light shining into the hills and hollers of my heart.

Thank you for your testimony, Canon Ross! My rector in Indiana is also a Berea alumnus.
