St. James Cathedral, Chicago, Illinois, was founded in 1834, before the city was incorporated, Bishop Chase arrived or a diocese was formed. But it reminds us how well he established the Episcopal Church in the wilderness of the Old Northwest; today Chicago is the third-largest city and fourth-largest diocese in the United States.
