The founder of Rikkyo University (St. Paul’s), Ikebukuro, Bishop Channing Moore Williams. It is the largest Anglican university in Japan and a member of the Big Six private schools. Fire destroyed it soon after its founding as St. Paul’s Academy for Boys, but The Episcopal Church rebuilt it, then in 1894 an earthquake leveled it. The present campus dates from 1919 and serves 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students. (Dick Thomas Johnson)
