John Henry Newman was a founder of the Oxford Movement and author of the famous Tract 90, which provoked a storm of controversy. He argued against “sola scriptura,” or taking the Bible as the supreme source of teaching authority. Eventually he fled to the Roman Catholic Church, though his relationships there were stormy too.
