John Raleigh Mott was a longtime leader of the Young Men’s Christian Association and, for 20 years, the general secretary of the World Student Christian Federation. He was intimately involved in the creation of the World Council of Churches, which elected him its honorary president for life. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946 for his ecumenical work which, after two world wars, Europeans hoped would promote peace, though there’s little evidence of any such result. (Wikipedia)
