William White House.IndependenceNatlHistoricalPark

William White was the greatest of the great American bishops; he steered the remnants of the former Church of England in America from weakness to strength in the post-Revolutionary period after 1776. He was the Episcopalian others rallied around, an undoubted patriot, a man of prudence and experience, the Chaplain of the Constitutional Convention which set the new, struggling States on a firm foundation. His home, a short walk from Independence Hall, is now part of the Independence National Historical Park, Philadelphia. If George Washington was the Father of His Country, William White was the Father of This Church. (INHP)
