Former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, the World War I era Nobel Peace Prize winner who promoted the League of Nations as a postwar forum to prevent bloodshed, will have his name removed from the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University because of his well-known racist views and actions, including imposing racial segregation on the federal government, resulting in the termination or demotion of thousands of African-American government employees. Wilson served as president of Princeton before he entered politics. The university has wrestled with Wilson’s legacy for years, most recently in 2016, when it decided to retain his name but add exhibits detailing his racist legacy. But after the recent alleged police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the university has decided Wilson needs to go, even though he raised the university’s academic standing to new heights during his tenure.
