BLM Plaza Sundays family time Evelyn Hockstein WaPo

Saturdays have turned into family day on Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, where a street fair atmosphere during the day turns more serious at night. Saturdays they held a Black Mamas March with toddlers hanging on to one big finger and lots of kids in strollers; vendors nearby sold works by local Black artists. “We are here because we want to show our children that their freedom is directly connected to their joy,” one mother said. “No matter how badly the state may try to break their body or their spirit, being joyful is a protest in and of itself.” (Evelyn Hockstein/The Washington Post)
