Halle Synagogue Door Replaced Hendrik Schmidt dpa

A year ago in Halle, Germany on Yom Kippur, a man tried to break in to this synagogue while 50 people were at worship. The door held, he never made it inside, so he shot the door full of holes and shot a pedestrian before driving to a Jewish-owned deli and killing a customer. This week the synagogue replaced the door, which will become the centerpiece of a new memorial to the victims, to open on 9 October, the one-year anniversary of the attack. The defendant went on trial this week. (Hendrik Schmidt/dpa)
