Jacinda Ardern Landslide Mark Baker AP

It’s a landslide for Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, as New Zealand voters kept Labor in power with an absolute majority in the multiparty system. She has been hailed at home and around the world for leading the first nation to defeat Covid-19. The economy has sputtered like it has everywhere else, but she also won acclaim for her compassionate response to the mass murder of 51 Muslims at worship in 2017 – and she astonished some in the U.S. by banning semi-automatic assault weapons with a government buyback program. Plus she gave birth in the middle of it all, the second woman in the world to do that as chief executive. (Mark Baker/AP)
