A state senator in Tennessee has proposed a bill to erect a statue of singer-songwriter Dolly Parton on the Statehouse grounds, citing her “lifelong philanthropy,” including free books for children to age 5 and her timely donation of $1 million to University of Tennessee researchers who helped develop the Moderna coronavirus vaccine. Miss Dolly gave thanks but declined the honor, saying now is not the time with the virus still raging. Later on, or after she’s gone, she would humbly take her place if the state still wants her. She’s not ready to be put on a pedestal yet, she’s too young and feisty! (Wade Payne/Invision/AP)
