Phyllis Martin & Del Martin Home SF Landmark.Marcio Jose Sanchez AP 2008

The home of the first legally married same-sex couple in San Francisco, Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin is now a city landmark, with the Board of Supervisors’ unanimous approval Tuesday. The longtime LGBT activists were married in March, 2008 by then-Mayor, now Gov. Gavin Newsome. Lyon and Martin bought their home in 1955, the same year they founded the first Lesbian organization, the Daughters of Bilitis. (Marcio Jose Sanchez/AP, 2008)
