Rep Joyce Beatty Chair of CBC Arrested Jose Luis Magana AP

U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, was arrested Thursday, helping to lead an unauthorized protest in the atrium of a Senate office building to urge passage of the For the People Act, which would reverse many of the restrictions on voting rights being enacted by Republican-led states. They urged the Senate to abolish the filibuster, which allows a minority in the chamber to block bills favored by the majority. With Congress closely divided between the two parties, little will get done before the next election as long as the filibuster remains in place. (Jose Luis Magana/AP)
