Cleveland’s Major League Baseball team is changing its nickname from Indians to Guardians, ending a racial controversy that started heating up in 1915 and boiled over last year with the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. “Indians” was a racist catchall term for any of the hundreds of Indigenous peoples of the Western Hemisphere.
