PM Viktor Orban & Pope Francis Budapest.Vatican Media

Pope Francis is on a 4-day trip to Central Europe, with Hungary his first stop; he met and exchanged gifts with Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest Sunday, then attended the closing Mass of an international conference on the Eucharist. In his sermon at Heroes’ Square, Francis urged Hungary to “extend its arms towards everyone,” a veiled reference to Orban’s policy of excluding and vilifying refugees. The pope only stayed in the country for seven hours to avoid giving Orban a political boost, then hurried off to Slovakia, where his first stop will be visiting the poorest members of the Roma community, who live in apartments and even shacks without running water.
