StMargaret of Antioch Peter Candid 16th C

Peter Candid, late 16th C.: St. Margaret of Antioch. Her story is similar to those of Catherine and Barbara; all were committed virgins who were killed for refusing marriage and refusing to renounce their faith. Margaret’s different in that she was swallowed whole by Satan, but the cross she was carrying irritated the devil’s innards. All three of them are fiction, but this Margaret has churches all over England named for her, including St. Margaret’s, Westminster on the Abbey Grounds, as well as the Sisters of St. Margaret.
