NV Gov Sorry for Stewart Indian School

The governor of Nevada has apologized for the state’s role in building and maintaining the Stewart Indian School (1890-1980) in Carson City, where children were taken from their homes, forced to abandon their Native language and folkways, and secretly buried in unmarked graves when they died. It was just one of over 350 Indian boarding schools now being investigated by the Interior Department. Above: an undated photo of a classroom at Stewart.
