Vin Scully has died, the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and indeed all of basebal,l on radio and television for 67 years. He was a protegé of the great broadcaster Red Barber, who taught him never to be a “homer” by rpoting for his employer, and to keep quiet after a great play and let the crowd noise take over. But his greatest talent was his spontaneous wordsmithing; he was eloquent about the game he loved and the people who played it. Often callled the greatest of all time, he’s seen here sharing a laugh with Willie Mays of the rival San Francisco Giants at Scully’s last signoff in 2016. (Jason O. Watson/Getty)
