George F. Bragg and sons: they were priests too. The early history of African Americans and The Episcopal Church would be nearly impossible to recover without the scholarship and historiographical work of George Freeman Bragg. He authored “First Negro Priest on Southern Soil,” “Men of Maryland,” “History of the Afro-American Group of the Episcopal Church” and “Richard Allen and Absalom Jones.” And he co-founded a forerunner of the Union of Black Episcopalians, which carries on the work of the founders today.
