Our favorite photograph of our favorite bishop. She’s softspoken, without guile, gentle but persuasive, a strong leader who united her diocese and led it through Anglicanism’s worldwide schism with barely a scratch. The Diocese of Indianapolis is a happy place, and has been throughout her tenure; her successor, Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, will make history tomorrow as the first American woman bishop to succeed a woman bishop gave voters the confidence it could be done, that it wasn’t necessary to elect a man to “balance things out,” but could go ahead and select the person who was best for the job.
